BRGADRC—Building Bridges: Inclusivity Park Opens as a Living Promise of Safe Spaces and Shared Humanity

On December 12, 2025, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture–Pili Campus marked more than the unveiling of a physical space. It marked a collective affirmation of dignity, belonging, and courage as the Bicol Regional Gender and Development Resource Center (BRGADRC), together with the Dawani Student Core Group and AngSalinsinag, officially launched the CBSUA Inclusivity Park—a space envisioned for every voice, every story, and every identity.

Nestled on the right side of the Student Center Building, the ribbon-cutting ceremony gathered university leaders, advocates, and students united by a shared purpose. Leading the ceremony were SUC President Alberto N. Naperi, DPA; Campus Administrator Allan B. Del Rosario, PhD; GAD Director Glenn E. Redicilla, PhD; and other key officials, whose presence reflected institutional support for a more inclusive and compassionate campus culture.

Designed as a haven of equity and belonging, the Inclusivity Park stands as a tangible commitment to promote inclusion, value diversity, and advocate for safe spaces. It seeks to support women and men, solo parents and children, LGBTQ members, indigenous peoples (IPs), youth, persons with disabilities, farmers, fisherfolks, and indigent sectors—communities whose voices deserve recognition, protection, and respect within and beyond the university.

In his message, GAD Director Glenn E. Redicilla, PhD, reflected on the long journey behind the project and its deeper meaning for the CBSUA community.

Today at CBSUA, we celebrate more than the opening of a new space. We celebrate a shared vision—a vision of a campus where every person feels safe, respected, and included,” he said. “The CBSUA Inclusivity Park stands as a reflection of our belief that true education flourishes only where dignity and compassion are present.”

The inauguration coincided with the culmination of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), giving the event a profound and timely resonance. For Director Redicilla, the park and the campaign are inseparable in purpose—both calling for a community where fear has no place and where every individual is empowered to thrive.

This park was thoughtfully created to be a safe and inclusive place—a place where students can study, rest, reflect, and reconnect,” he shared. “It quietly says: You belong here. You are safe here. It is not just a physical structure, but a promise.

He highlighted symbolic elements within the park: the flag representing diversity and welcome for all, and the rainbow lane embodying acceptance of the LGBTQ community and the university’s call for respect, equality, and genuine belonging. The Inclusivity Park, he emphasized, carries messages of hope, healing, and unity in every pathway and corner.

With pride, Director Redicilla also shared other BRGADRC initiatives, including the establishment of a mini GAD Library featuring scanned books and GAD-related research sourced from institutions such as UP Diliman, as well as advocacy materials and merchandise available during GAD activities—extending the Center’s mission beyond the park itself.

Adding a solemn and heartfelt moment to the program, Engr. Dulce Maria Abigail A. Jastio, GAD Project Head for Training, Outreach, and Linkages, led a prayer for the Divinagracia sisters, victims of a recent crime. Her prayer echoed the core of the GAD advocacy—justice, healing, and an unwavering stand against violence. Her words called for courage for survivors, comfort for grieving families, integrity among leaders, and a collective resolve to end all forms of violence against women and children. The inauguration of the CBSUA Inclusivity Park marks a significant step forward in cultivating a culture of equity, respect, and inclusion within the university. More than a space, it is a symbol of hope and unity—an assurance that diversity is honored, voices are valued, and safety is a shared responsibility.

As students and advocates affirm, CBSUA is united for a VAW-free community—standing together to build a campus and a future where everyone is empowered, included, and free from fear. | by Rounin Tanaotanao
